Literature Text

The starting line is just a blur now
Dusty ashes on the whitewashed horizon
Smearing our names in love and hate
Sealing the gates with rusty tears
That fall from the eyes of earthbound angels
Once I would have hesitated to cross it
Once I would have shied away from the unknown
But you grabbed my hand with sheer pride and joy
Of being free to live a life you weren't given
Somewhere in the back corridors of my mind
Amongst the cobweb snapshots and cloudy dust notes
There was a warning of a long forgotten promise
We were living on borrowed time in a borrowed world
Now your voice is no longer here and my pulse has long since gone
Yet we still carry on with hearts made of metal
The tired pumps still running our last mile.
The real tragedy in life is when men are afraid of the light.
